Who belongs to WACTE?

WACTE is over 1000 members strong -- and growing!

Our members include new and experienced teachers, school administrators, teacher educators, career counselors, support staff, and other career and technical education professionals. They represent Wisconsin's Secondary Schools, Technical Colleges, and Universities in a variety of settings from the heart of Milwaukee or Madison to the small towns in the farthest reaches of our state. And they look to WACTE and ACTE for assistance in preparing students of all ages for tomorrow's workplace.

Why is WACTE critical to your future?

The easiest way to answer this question is for us to say "WACTE helps us to do together what we cannot do alone". WACTE helps us to do what we cannot do alone in the following ways:

Legislative Affairs

WACTE and ACTE work on legislative issues to make sure that our programs are adequately funded...and that our members get all the support they need to make the most of their professional abilities. And over the years, we've achieved an impressive track record of success. ACTE was the driving force behind the Perkins Act...the School-to-Work Opportunities Act...the Goals 2000: Educate America Act...the Elementary and Secondary Education Act...and many other pieces of landmark national legislation.

These federal funds are used to leverage state and local funds. The state and local funds used to support your specific program may be available because of federal funding matching request or because the federal funds supported another program thereby freeing up funds for you.

Federal funds are often used to support state leadership staff. Over 50% of the state leadership staff in the nation are at least partially funded by federal dollars. These state leaders provide state-level in-services, curriculum development, and student organization activities.

Federal funds are used for curriculum development activities. Whether it is at a state agency or through a curriculum center, the federal involvement has an impact on a variety of programs.

Personal and Professional Growth

WACTE and ACTE provide excellent opportunities for you to communicate, network, learn and grow as a professional educator. We serve as a center and umbrella organization for all career and technical occupations. Every member is constantly updated with the newest trends and issues facing career and technical education. We also offer numerous workshops and seminars to increase your effectiveness as a professional educator.

Public Relations

WACTE and ACTE are working to improve the image of career and technical education programs. Corporate partners are working with ACTE and WACTE has developed a corporate sponsor network as well as a supporting Foundation. These initiatives will have an impact on the perceptions of policy-makers, parents and others.

Influence

Through WACTE and ACTE educators can have a significant impact on the future direction of Workforce Development Initiatives and Public Education Policy. ACTE provides us with a voice in Washington and through our involved and dedicated members WACTE is well situated to serve as a force for positive change at the grassroots level in Wisconsin.
